Before and After

Examples of work by Kip the Soundie

Raw vocals VS. Kip’s vocal edit

Genre: indie rock piano ballad with classical influences
Editing Style: naturalistic and gentle
Use of effects: mostly restrained except for the reverb – this song has religious themes, so it was important for it to sound like it was sung into a big empty space (like a church)

Unmixed VS. Kip’s Mix and Master

Genre: Spooky ambient industrial electronic
Mix and Master Style: Brutalist and highly stylised (to suit the genre)
Use of effects: raw files were already very highly processed, so effects used were minimal
Challenges: Many different noises, challenging to get more clarity without sacrificing style (important to the artist).
